Kashmir issue

September 6th, 2008

In kashmir, the coalition government led by the congress chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, had to resign since the People’s Democratic Party withdrew from the coalition. The raging controversy is about alotment of forest land to put up temporary shelters to pilgrims visiting Amarnath temple. The government could have avoided alloting the land to the Amarnathji shrine authorities, though only on a temporary basis. It could have extended facilities to pilgrims hrough its several departments and no one would have complained. The wrong move, created fierce agitations and the government was forced to withdraw its order. This angered Hindutva forces and they too launced agitations to protest over government’s “weak-kneed policy”! However with the fall of the coalition government agitations over this issue have subsided.
